What the press has said about us

Four luxurious stone-clad apartments at the entrance of Skyros town, with antique furniture, built on three levels, a swimming pool and a garden, overlooking the town and the monastery.

The best unit of the island - perhaps of the Sporades - at the entrance of Chora.

Stone-built, with traditional aesthetics inside and out, a small gem with all that we ask from a hotel.

The best solution but also the most expensive are the seven rooms in the "Doge's houses", copies of traditional houses with Doge's bullet ( wisely ), multi-level, since upstairs is the bedroom and below, on another level, the living room with two beds and on another the kitchen and the bathroom.

Old dog furniture and antiques , fireplace for the winter full of wood ready to warm you up , iron beds, full clay tableware for 6 people, autonomous heating, cloth armchairs and marble tables on the balconies.
Similar but on two levels are the four rooms in the stone houses and two in the complex <>.

The most economical solution is the 10 rooms of <> with small balconies overlooking the pool or the Castle. American-style breakfast , served all day , with dog cheeses, homemade sweets, fresh fruit, doughnuts, local honey and puff pastry. At the pool wooden deckchairs and cloth chairs , with cushions and footstool.

The hotel is among the BEST HOTELS by Alpha Guide

Modern hotel built in traditional style , combining hotel rooms with larger apartments. It is located right on the edge of town and is quite quiet.
We suggest you ask for a room with a view and book well in advance because it is very popular.

Hotel Nefeli: Skyrian... diamond

Nefeli Hotel is undoubtedly the best that Skyros has to offer to the traveller who values luxurious accommodation, without screaming luxury and the usual impersonal environment.

After a total renovation, which was based mainly on natural-ecological materials, it is now classified as a four-star accommodation, providing its visitors with quality and hospitable accommodation in one of the most beautiful islands of Greece.
Nefeli Hotel is located at the entrance of Skyros country and consists of three different buildings, each of which houses rooms of different shapes and possibilities, such as standardexecutivesuitesstudio, traditional and antique.

More specifically, the building "Nefeli" It features modern rooms, with king-size beds, spacious marble bathrooms and crystal showers. Beyond the standard Rooms, you can choose between executive with a living room and terraces overlooking the country and the swimming pool, in the suites with two king-size beds (on the ground floor and the attic), living room, fireplace, two TVs and bathroom with jacuzzi, and on the best suite, the hotel's most impressive room at the highest point with extra amenities and views.

In the building "Demetrius" you can choose between seven apartments, faithful copies of the dog houses. They are structured in three levels and have all the required amenities, combining them harmoniously with the traditional character of the room. On the first level of the house there is the entrance and the bathroom (in some of them there is also a kitchen), on the second level there is the living room with sofas/beds and TV and on the third level there is the main bedroom with a double bed.

Finally, there is the building "Stone", consisting of two double apartments on the ground floor and two quadruple apartments on the first floor, decorated with beautiful antique furniture, ornate Scythian woodcarvings and impressive ceramics of Byzantine origin. The view that combines the pool and the castle of Skyros is truly magnificent.

Among the general amenities of the hotel stands out the huge swimming pool with sea water (you will prefer it if you do not have a means of transport to visit the somewhat remote beaches), next to it there is an open-air bar with the castle in the background, while children will be delighted with both the hotel's children's pool and the playground a little further on.

In the hotel restaurant you will enjoy the breakfast consisting of local products, while for your meals you can choose from a wide range of homemade Mediterranean cuisine based on organic products of the farm, free-range animals and fish of the day.

It actually consists of five buildings, each with different room arrangements and amenities. There are also some rooms with kitchen facilities. The bedrooms and bathrooms are spacious in size and well equipped. Most rooms have nice views. The large lobby on the ground floor is a welcoming space. Book in advance, as Nefeli is one of Skyros' favorite choices.

  • Bar
  • Children's playground

Nefeli Hotel, Chora, Skyros

There's a luxurious air about the Nefeli hotel, with an inviting pool in its centre, traditional architecture, rich landscaping and first-class amenities. What's surprising is that such a chic-looking property is also the most eco-friendly on the island, balancing sophistication and environment quite well.
The owner, Mr. Ioannis Evgenikos, has gone to great lengths to ensure that everything from construction materials to the local breakfast contribute to sustainable tourism. One part of the hotel consists of traditional Skyrian 'houses' that preserve the culture and décor of the island's homes. The other part boasts simple Cycladic architecture built with local materials, yet with lovely spacious interiors and modern (eco-friendly) bathrooms.

The property also collects rainwater in cisterns to water the plants. It fills the pool with refreshing seawater rather than drain the island's sweet water resources. The garden features local and endemic plants, while much of the fruits and vegetables come from the hotel's organic sister farm (with Skyrian horses!) outside the town. The farm produces delicious watermelon, honeydew melon, radishes, figs, pomegranates, quince, apricots and pears among other produce which you are likely to see at breakfast. Add to this local cheeses, meats, herbs and olive oil to make a regal feast that's as close to nature as possible. Some of the fruits even grow in the hotel's garden and end up on the breakfast table's jams as well.

In parallel, Nefeli has a modern recycling program for waste, and in a traditional yet effective method for recycling, any extra food is never thrown away but given to the farm animals.

Energy-wise, the hotel has solar heating and is in the process of creating a system for solar lighting. All bulbs are energy efficient, including LED technology, while appliances across the hotel have also been procured with energy savings in mind. Even the washers and dryers work at nights when electricity is abundant and costs less.

On a natural note, both the saltwater pool and the endemic trees on the property have attracted migrating birds, offering a wonderful natural sight to the hotel's guests (birdwatchers will also rejoice in the bird towers that were recently erected on the island). The hotel's management is also very helpful in informing guests about nature activities and alternative tourism around the island. To begin with, the hotel organizes stargazing nights in the clear skies of Skyros, especially when there are any celestial events such as eclipses or comets. They can arrange for guided hikes or even diving trips if asked in advance.

In short, the rooms of this green hotel all look new and offer all luxury amenities including natural toiletries, AC and flat-screen TV. Some have a fireplace for colder months, and there is also a room for the disabled. The management builds a warm relationship with its guests and is very welcoming in every respect. If you want to go eco and first class as well, the Nefeli and Skyros are an excellent choice.

Nefeli: Fairy Tale Skyrian by Iros Kounadi You ascend the Cycladic scenery from the port to Chora - don't be fooled, a little further up the landscape is covered in the green of the Sporades. You see it for the first time at a bend in the road, just before the entrance to Chora: a complex of white houses all curved lines and fuchsia bougainvillea. At first glance, of course, you don't realize that crossing its threshold, you'll find yourself in a parallel universe, full of flowers and trees laden with fruit, birds chirping as they flutter over the pool, and the rock of Chora, with its all-white houses, contributing to the perfect backdrop. Awarded the Ecotourism distinction for its ecological concerns, Nefeli is not just another luxurious but unremarkable 4-star hotel, and the description that wants its luxury to blend with tradition is not just another boring cliché. Far from screaming or glittering to get noticed, luxury here is hidden behind natural materials, airy fabrics, atmospheric lighting, organic produce, genuine smiles and simple, clean lines that sometimes follow local architecture and sometimes the imagination of the creators. Rooms with a view... five stars Around the pool -which as the only water resource of Chora gathers all its winged inhabitants, who are constantly chirping- spreads the five different "houses" that make up the neighbourhood of Nefeli. The hotel opened its doors for the first time in 1989, and since then it has been growing ever since, to propose another aesthetic, to cater for another taste. What to choose between the minimal luxury of the suite with private pool and the Skyrian Houses, designed like the traditional houses of the Skyrians, who, in order to escape the fear of pirates, had to squeeze together around the castle and fit their lives and their household into a few square metres? How to decide whether to prefer the Stone Building, whose rooms are decorated with fantastic antiques, or the Modern Stone Building, which combines clean lines and layered architecture with built-in canapés on its balcony and panoramic views of the Chora? The impressive room amenities include, among others, mini bar, satellite TV, hairdryer, fireplace (to tempt you to come in winter), wi-fi and of course the expected telephone, air conditioning and independent central heating. The hotel also has a lending library, room service, a 220 square metre seawater swimming pool, a garden with local plants and fruit trees, a children's pool and the only room specially designed for disabled people in Chora. Walks on the island Whichever room you choose, you're bound to find it hard to tear yourself away from your balcony or living room. Even the bathrooms, with their vibrant colours and striking architecture, seem made to keep you in - although the owners swear with a smile that they didn't do it on purpose, and that they try to encourage their guests to experience as much of their undiscovered island as possible, suggesting routes, activities and of course beaches to suit every taste. And in this, Skyros does not fall short in the least. When you manage to give up the warmth of your room, you will stroll along the stone cobbled streets of Chora, visit its interesting museums, Archaeological and Folklore, you will drive from the south to the north of the island to see the landscape change from Cycladic to tufted pine forests, hoping that somewhere you will catch the unique dog horses running carelessly, and you will dive on beaches with emerald waters and pine trees reaching the waves. Tastes and smells of Skyros On returning from your walks, you can sample traditional, local cuisine at the hotel's restaurant or by the pool. The daily specials rotate daily, depending on the ingredients available - almost all of which come from the privately owned farm in the north of the island, if you're wondering why the tomato in the rustic is perfumed all over the place, or why your meat is so delicious. This also applies to the delectable breakfast buffet, which is loaded daily with all manner of handmade delicacies: from local cheeses and egg rolls, to homemade cakes and chocolate logs, and from excellent pumpkin pies to doughnuts just out of the kitchen. An extra plus is that this latter is open, and communicates with both the restaurant and the outside, so you can see step-by-step the preparation of your meals - and take notes, so you can take some dog food home. In the evening, the atmospheric pool lighting contrasts beautifully with the country lights that come on one after the other, creating the perfect backdrop for stargazing from the giant sofas, or with the help of the hotel's telescope, and enjoying a wine from the carefully curated list. And, obviously, to devise the perfect plan for not leaving tomorrow-not the day after tomorrow, not a week from now. The Nefeli is open all year round. Prices in the August high season start from 110€ for a standard double room, and from 135€ for the traditional Skyrian House, which sleeps up to four people -of course, all prices include an excellent breakfast.
